We are seeking a Development Director with Unreal Engine/Unity expertise to drive the creation of real-time immersive products, manage high-performing teams, and champion the strategic vision of our development department.

Position Overview

As the Development Director, you will lead and inspire a diverse team of developers to deliver engaging, stable, and innovative interactive experiences. Your strategic roadmap will support both immediate project needs and long-term business objectives. You will partner closely with artists, designers, account managers, and executives, ensuring flawless execution across multiple projects and platforms. In this role, you will also serve as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders, translating high-level goals into robust technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic & Project Leadership

• Development Roadmapping: Define and communicate a clear technical roadmap aligning short-term project deliverables with long-term growth and innovation.
• Project Management: Oversee schedules, budgets, and resource allocation. Mitigate risks proactively, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
• Cross-Discipline Coordination: Collaborate with art, design, engineering, and project management teams to maintain a unified vision, manage dependencies, and ensure smooth execution.

2. Technical Vision & Oversight

• Full Software Lifecycle: Lead the end-to-end development process (designing, coding, debugging, documenting) for both Unreal Engine and Unity-based applications.
• Infrastructure & Architecture: Establish best practices for scalable systems and high-performance code, including Git flow, CI/CD, code reviews, and robust documentation.
• Performance Optimization: Champion profiling and optimization (GPU/CPU), refactoring codebases, and enforcing technical standards to maintain rock-solid stability.
• Risk & Crisis Management: Identify potential risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and guide teams calmly and effectively through high-pressure situations.

3. Team Leadership & Development

• Mentorship & Growth: Inspire and mentor developers of varying seniorities, fostering a collaborative, creative, and high-performance environment.
• Remote & Distributed Teams: Manage teams across multiple locations, promoting consistent communication, shared vision, and strong team morale.
• Hiring & Onboarding: Recruit and onboard talent, ensuring the team has the necessary skills and resources to tackle emerging technologies and project challenges.

4. Collaboration with Stakeholders

• Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a primary technical liaison, translating business objectives into viable, efficient, and innovative solutions.
• Continuous Alignment: Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to leadership and clients, ensuring transparency and sustained client satisfaction.
• Promote International Projects: Support and expand the reach of bully!’s international portfolio, identifying global opportunities and best-fit technologies.

5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Emerging Tech Research: Stay ahead of industry trends - AR, VR, AI, and more - and integrate cutting-edge technologies into project pipelines.
• Fostering Innovation: Champion a culture of continuous learning, R&D, and experimentation to keep products fresh and competitive.
• Quality Control & Testing: Oversee QA processes, advocate for rigorous testing, and ensure thorough documentation of all technical implementations.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of enterprise-level development experience in real-time applications using C# (Unity) and/or Unreal Engine (C++/Blueprints).
• Strong background in software architecture, going beyond standard design patterns (GoF).
• Proven proficiency in profiling and optimizing GPU/CPU performance.
• Demonstrated expertise in refactoring and optimizing existing codebases for maintainability.
• Experience managing distributed teams, with proven success in remote collaboration.

Preferred Skills:

• Outstanding organizational and communication abilities, fostering smooth cross-discipline collaboration.
• Demonstrated track record in leading development teams, driving project success with strategic planning and line management.
• Prior experience as a Department Director or in a senior leadership role, managing budgets and aligning resources effectively.
• Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) for clear, concise communication.
