Background:

People in Need (PIN) is a Czech non-governmental organization that provides relief aid and development assistance while working to defend human rights and democratic freedom. It is one of the largest relief and development organizations in post-communist Europe and has administered projects in 37 countries over the past 30 years. From 2009 onwards, PIN has added development programmes to its work in Moldova, building a vision and practices that keep people and communities at the centre of our work. Throughout its presence in the country, PIN has been contributing to the development of the following sectors: Sustainable Livelihood and Environment, Social Inclusion and Protection, Good Governance.

Position Overview:

Based in one of the PIN Offices (Balti, Chisinau or Comrat) and working under the supervision of the Protection Programme Manager, the Protection Assistant works in close collaboration with the PIN respective teams and partners. S/he is expected to support the Protection Programme in Chisinau and other locations in the implementation of the social inclusion protection strategy, which includes, monitoring and protection mainstreaming. The Protection Assistant contributes to protection strategy development through evidence-informed and participatory approaches and supports incorporating protection mainstreaming into all activities. S/he represents PIN in WGs/ coordination meetings with all stakeholders to maintain good relations and effective partnership.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists to manage all the activities throughout relevant project cycles to ensure efficient and effective implementation of project programme in line with PIN and key humanitarian and protection program quality principles and standards, donor requirements and good practices;
  • Coordinates all day-to-day programmatic and operational activities of the project, ensure close coordination of project activities with other PIN departments and project stakeholders;
  • Prepares Grants and Partnership Agreements for the sub-grants proposals to be funded by PIN;
  • In cooperation with Protection Programme Manager, reviews narrative reports submitted by grantees.
  • Contributes to the capacity building program within the projects and support to organize project events, meetings, workshops together with logistic and procurement departments;
  • Supports to monitor partner activities and provides support to ensure timely and quality implementation;
  • In cooperation with MEAL and Protection teams, follows up the MEAL plan, ensures the protection activities learning and lessons learned informed by findings, needs assessments, surveys, and monitoring activities;
  • Contributes to the strategic development of the Social Inclusion and Protection Programme in Moldova, including the development of project proposals;
  • Supports to produce high quality donor reports,
  • Ensures project team and partner staff use the appropriate systems and tools for relevance, efficient and quality programming;
  • Actively participates in cluster/coordination meetings and ensures effective information flow for updates;
  • Contributes to mainstreaming of protection principles into the activities;
  • Perform field visits to assess the situation of the beneficiaries on the ground, monitor field activities and provide support to project partners and beneficiaries;

Requirements:

  • 2 years experience
  • College diploma or university degree
  • Ability to plan own work and manage conflicting priorities
  • Good communication skills (spoken and written), including the ability to explain and present complex information and prepare written documents/communications in a clear and concise style
  • Knowledge of MS Office, particularly with Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Fluency in English, Romanian and Russian (recommended)
